Positioning SMEs in European Standardisation organisations
SBS needs to ensure SME participation in the managing bodies and high level strategic groups in the European Standards Organisations (ESOs). This activity will ensure the appropriate representation of SMEs interests in the bodies that are in charge of the management and policy making of the ESOs. It is important for SME to also be represented in European standardisation organisations (ESOS) at their managing meetings.
SBS may be able to intervene beyond the forum of the Working Groups and postulate some changes in the functioning of the Standardisation Bodies or Technical Committees. These situations usually emerge as a result of some procedural flaws or inadequate adaptation of the standardisation system to the needs of SMEs.
SBS may also monitor, express and share SME position towards their members of such strategic meetings.
Therefore, SBS is present in the following bodies:
1. CEN GA and BT
This activity monitors, contributes and informs SMEs about the activities and decisions within CEN’s managing bodies, the General Assembly and Technical Board. In particular, this activity ensures adequate SME involvement as regards decisions about appeals, mandates, creations of new TCs, new standardisation projects and strategic policy decisions that are relevant for SMEs.
2. CENELEC GA and BT
The activities pursued inside these bodies are symmetrical to the ones carried out in the CEN GA and BT.
3. CEN-CENELEC SME Working Group
SMEs participation to the Working Group provide information on the activities carried out by the group in charge of SMEs at CEN and CENELEC, also gathering the majority of National Standards Bodies (NSBs) . Decisions that are relevant for SMEs will be tracked and SME contribution will be ensured.
The activity monitors, contribute and informs SMEs about the decisions within ETSI’s managing bodies, the GA and the most relevant strategic groups.
